Business Facet
Starting up a business of our own, like for a start, a small medium business, can be quite tiring and stressful, I mean years ago you could actually start up a business with a good idea and more or less suck it and see if it worked.
But today it’s a much more complex business environment, and you really have to do your homework. You need to look at the planning aspect of business; you need to do the figures to see if it’s going to be financially viable before you risk your money.
One needs a lot of patience, dedication and of course financial support. But first, what kind of business do you want to put up with? What do you want to do? What are your preferences, likes and dislikes?
For many entrepreneurs though, a great idea is still the genesis of the successful enterprise. You must have some things to do that you love most, like drinking coffee. You love to bake and you love to eat sweets. Or you love to make dresses and design clothes. Or you love to read and you have a lot of books. This will be your basis in the start up of your business.
You have to identify your customer. If you can’t reach into his pocket, and you can’t take the money out, you don’t have a business. Because customers are considered the blood of the business, without such, the business will not profit or do well.
If you want to put up your own small medium business, you should be interested in cash flow. Putting up a business for just a whim is a disaster as well. One should be interested in the financial side of it because it’s pretty hard work. Blood, sweat and tears is more likely to be extracted from you at every end of the day.
One must have a business plan at hand. All the usual contents of a business plan like marketing, the customers, the sales cycle; it had the production, the R&D.
Resilience at the end of the day is an important characteristic as well I think because you take many knocks along the way. Furthermore there are many times when you wake up in the morning or in the middle of the night for that matter, and think why on earth am I doing this?
But at the end of the day when you think through the reasons for having a small medium business set it up in the first place, and you have a sound business model and you’ve done all your homework, you will get through.
