Credit card adjustments: How to make credit card companies give you a better deal
There have been numerous times that credit cards holders stared at me in awe and said “I didn’t know I could do that!” Of course, I cannot advocate that I know everything there is about credit cards and its uses, and the things you can actually make them do to your advantage, but I have gotten quite a few tricks over the years that I or my friends and family have used credit cards.
Credit card companies of course have good intentions for you. They have to or else you wouldn’t buy in to their programs. Nevertheless, you should realize that as a business, credit card companies do have the upper hand. They have a million and one ways to profit out of your account.
So, how do you lessen the profits they could gain from you and your endless borrowing? Educate yourself on their policies, terms, conditions, and hot buttons.
Okay, before you start thinking that you can squeeze your way out of constantly maximizing your credit limit, or late payments, I would have to tell you to stop reading now. Your leverage in getting better deals from credit card companies border on the impossible. To start negotiating, you need a good credit history to back you up. Are you a responsible cardholder? If you are, read along.
Have you enjoyed good credit standing for the last couple of years but still have to put up with soaring Annual Percentage Rates? Call the credit card company now and ask if you are eligible to get lower APRs. The better your credit score is, the better the chance of you getting lower APRs. Tell the customer representative of your good credit scores (which they should know), your on-time payments (that they should know), and offers from other credit card companies which include lower rates (oh, they don’t know that). Give them a chance to counter the offer by saying you wanted to check with them about the possibility of lowering your APR with them first.
Did you just realize that you have gotten a car and your first payment is due the same day as your due date for credit card payment? Call your credit card company and ask them to move your payment schedule to a later date.
There are instances that you are ready to make large purchases but your credit limit is insufficient. Did you know that you can actually call your credit card company and ask for a higher limit? However, if you do not want those inquiries on your credit history or for them to pull out your credit report, just ask them how high they could raise your limit without going through the whole kit and caboodle.
These are just some of the things you can go ahead and call your credit company about. There are a lot more where they came from, I am sure, but we would not know until we inquire, right?
